CUBRC, Inc. and the National Center for Ontological Research (NCOR, University at Buffalo) will host a one-day workshop on the topic of Ontologies for Information Integration (OI2), taking place in Buffalo at the NYS Center for Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences. The focus of the meeting will be the challenges of Big Data, especially in military, security, and intelligence domains.

The workshop aims to foster awareness of and collaboration between ontology-sharing efforts in the era of Big Data. It will include keynote addresses by leading figures in ontology and military information sharing, and also a review of the work of the Distributed Development of a Shared Semantic Resource (DDSSR) initiative sponsored by the US Army's Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD).

Keynote Addresses

"Why Ontologies? A Perspective from Military Intelligence"
Leo J. Obrst, Principal AI Scientist, MITRE Corporation

Getting Around

The DDSSR Pilot Project

This event forms part of the Distributed Development of a Shared Semantic Resource (DDSSR) pilot project within the framework of the US Army's Distributed Common Ground System Standard Cloud (DSC) initiative. The goal of this project is to validate an ontology-based method of extending the horizontal integration of intelligence data to new providers and users of this data. Our guiding strategy is to build a set of ontologies, not in order to address the needs of one specific group or specific type of data, but rather to represent the domains of reality with which multiple different groups are concerned and which are described by multiple different sorts of data.
